Lao Beijing

Located on #03-01, I met Celia at Lao Beijing for lunch on 1st Jan 2011. Serving authentic Northern Chinese fare, noodles and juicy dumplings, Lao Beijing is a favourite venue for family dining and cosy gatherings. It has bagged numerous awards and retains its position as one of Singapore's top restaurants in Singapore Tatler's 'Best Restaurants' guide. We ordered the set lunch for 2 people.
Soup

Starting the set lunch was soup. Definitely not shark fin's soup, this bowl soup was thick and comprised of shredded bean curd.

Traditional Roast Peking Duck

The portion was just nice for the 2 of us. This was delicious and has to be my favourite dish for lunch. It was fun being able to decide how much meat we wanted to include in the pancake skin with spring onions and sweet bean sauce.

Dan Dan Noodles

A little spicy, the noodles was a change to the local chinese noodles that we usually eat. Thick gravy and eating it when the noodles was steaming hot, it must have felt good, especially if we are eating this bowl of noodles during winter. Beancurd with Vegetables

Interesting presentation, especially to see the mushrooms being placed on the beancurd. Yet it was a good combination as we sink our teeth into the smooth beancurd and the taste of the mushroom blends in well. Chewy vegetables.
Steamed juicy meat balls (Xiao Long Bao)

Traditionally, Xiao Long Bao is a kind of dim sum or snack item. The buns are served hot in the bamboo baskets in which they are steamed. The buns are usually dipped in Chinkiang vinegar with ginger silvers. If you have a bite into xiao long bao, the juice will ooze out immediately before one can taste the ingredients in the xiao long bao.
