Waffles in Tasmania

Gina & Pat - Waffles Time

Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company is a production and tasting centre near Evandale, south of Launceston.

The Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company is about 20-minutes’ drive (17 kilometres/10.5 miles) from central Launceston.

We were guided through the delicious range of products, such as a variety of berry fruit sauces, chocolate sauces as well as apricot chutney, Cumberland sauce and Thai chilli.

One can purchase all products including a range of gift packs from the centre. Interstate and overseas postage can be arranged.
There’s a dedicated tasting room adjacent to the production kitchen, and a deck looking out onto a garden and topiary nursery – the largest in Tasmania.

Triple Three

Pat, Clarissa & Dylan - Lunch at Triple Three

On 27 August 2011, Clarissa, Dylan and Pat finally caught up for lunch. Thanks Dylan for coordinating. We were supposed to meet a month ago, yet there were some last minute change of plans. We were initially supposed to meet at Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery for lunch. Yet upon arrival there was a long queue. Dylan and Clarissa were deliberating whether to head for Chatterbox or Triple Three. In a way, I was glad they chose Triple Three as I was a frequent diner at Chatterbox.

For the price of $72 for buffet lunch, pity there were only three of us, as there was a 1-1 promotion. A bit pricey for buffet and given that we were there at 1pm, not much time given to really indulge in the food.

It was a cosy area. The dining space can be described as an expensive-looking cafeteria lounge. There were serveral live stations, which included sashimi, pasta, teppanyaki and tempura stations among other things.

Here's what we had for lunch :
Pat's dish - pacing herself in the buffet

For starters, I had the sashimi, prawns and mussels. I enjoyed the fresh selection of food. A seafood person and one who loves japanese food, I had 3 plates of sashimi. For buffet I usually select the food I love the eat and instead of going for a variety of food. I am not a person who really eat a lot to max the value of the food. Which explained why at the end of our lunch, both Dylan and Clarissa were very sleepy, they said they had overeaten. Yet I was still wide awake and energetic.

Skin of the Siew Mai was hard

Pat's main course - Tempura, chicken, potato and asparagus

A mixture of Seafood on Dylan's plate

Love the thick slices of Sashimi

Our plate of desserts to be shared - cakes, mousses, nonya kuehs

Fruits

Love the ice-cream selection comprising of chocolate, vanilla and lime ( the lime was so sour that one is awaken at the the taste of it- apparently that had more impact on me. Just proved that I have a sweet tooth not one for really sour stuff though)

Logans

Pear with wine in purple colouring and citrus orange

Pat's 3rd and final set of Sashimi

Dylan had the entire plate to himself - Wow

HaoGao, Siew Mai

Pat's 6 sticks of satay - 2 pieces each of beef, mutton and chicken. Should have just ordered 6 stickes of chicken. The beef and mutton were tough.

Kopi Tiam

Samantha & Pat at Kopi Tiam

I had a lovely evening having dinner with Samantha at Kopi Tiam at Swisshotel on 25 August 2011. I knew Sam from a writing course in church and we recently connected at Prayer Experience Retreat (PER) at CSC. What a small world. It was certainly an inspiring session as both of us shared our faith journey with each other.

The upper class Kopi Tiam

Nasi Goreng ($16)

It was a good spread of local dishes. No wonder Samantha took a longer time to select the food. She had 3 choices in mind - in the end it was Nasi Goreng for her.

Seafood Hor Fun ( $16.50)

I love chinese food. For me I tried the cripsy noodles the other time I was at Kopi Tiam. This time I wanted to try something different. Was deciding between the sinful Char Kway Teow or Seafood Hor Fun. I chose the later and enjoyed my dish.

A taste of Malay food

Durian ice Cream with Pearl Sago ($6.50)

The babe and her sweet tooth

After our local cuisine, we had our desserts. An enjoyable dinner in a cosy restaurant and in good company. Thanks.

Terracotta Warriors/ Coffee Club

On Sunday 14th August, I headed down to Asian Civilisations Museum just to see the Terracotta warriors - the weekend festival which was free admission. In fact I was actually at the musuem on 9 August on my museum hopping day. Asian Civilisation Museum was the last stop. However the queue was so long, one had to wait at least 3 hours, I decided to head home instead.

Hence when mass ended at 8.30am that morning, by 9am I was already at Asian Civilisations Musuem. There was no queue. It was an enjoyable walk, the morning breeze along Raffles Place.

The view of Singapore River (the beauty of nature)

All set to explore The Terracotta Warriors Exhibition

Free Admission from 9am to 7pm on August 13 and 14, 2011

The Terra Cotta Warriors is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210-209 BC and whose purpose was to help guard his empire in his afterlife.

The Warriors look so stern

Actully it was a small exhibit of the Terracotta Warriors. I completed viewing the exhibition within 30minutes. Boy was I really glad I did not have to wait in the queue for 3 hours to view these exhibits.

Here are the highlights of the exhibits :
The terracotta army buried near the tomb of the First Emperor of China is perhaps the most important archaeological discovery of our time. Unearthed in 1974 outside Xi’an, the thousands of pottery soldiers and horses are striking works of art that tell us a great deal about early China.

This exhibition features one hundred artefacts from Shaanxi province in China. Besides terracotta figures, the display contains important bronzes and jades from the Qin state before the time of the First Emperor, Shi Huangdi. The Han dynasty inherited the legacy of unified China, and charming terracotta figures from this later period show how the First Emperor’s tomb influenced later burials

The exhibition highlights new interpretations and poses questions about what we really know of the remarkable terracotta army. Recent excavations have revealed a variety of objects, including painted warriors, acrobats meant to entertain the emperor, chariots and life-like birds. Many of these will be presented in the exhibition.

This is the first exhibition of the actual terracotta warriors to be held in Singapore, as well as the first presentation in Southeast Asia.

Attention Everyone!

"White knight with earphones"

I was out of the musuem by 9.40am as I had viewed the rest of the exhibits previously.

The lovely clouds

Mac Hotcake breakfast

I had a chewy bar and a cup of milo early in the morning. Yet after my session at the musuem, I was feeling hungry, hence I headed to Mac at Funan for breakfast. Quiet moments reading and having breakfast.

Xiuling's cup of coffee

It was time to meet xiuling for late lunch. Hence I walked down from Funan to Taka. Yap, Pat's mini-walking exercise. We headed to coffeeclub situated inside Kinoyuniya. A small cosy corner in the book shop.

Wasabi Prawn Salad

I ordered the Wasabi Prawn Salad. Thankfully the wasabi wasn't that hot else I would be drinking lots of water. The wasabi heightens the flavor of the prawns. Together with green vegetables, nuts and rasins, a healthy dish to have. I discovered recently I am into salads, especially when I have a heavy meal for lunch, I will usually opt for a salad meal for dinner.

Sandwich for Xiuling,

Xiuling tried to offer me the potato wedges, which I took 2 pieces only. Enough of carbo. We wanted to go for desserts, but we were too full.
