CNY Lunch at Wan Hao - 3 Feb 2011

On 3 February 2011, the first day of Chinese New Year, we started the day with Chinese New Year Mass in church. After mass, mum and I headed to Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant for our Chinese New Year Lunch.

I have always love the food at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant at Marriott Singapore. The restaurant serves authentic and award-winning Cantonese cuisine set amidst an elegant setting combining Eastern architecture and Western influence. In fact, every year I will purchase a set of Salmon Yusheng from Wan Hao during Chinese New Year.

For lunch , we had the CNY set menu for two. There were in total 8 dishes.

Our first dish was the Salmon Yusheng. The lady who served us was pleasant. After wishing us the auspicious greetings to the dish, we were all ready to toss the Yusheng - to a Fantastic Rabbit Year.

Our 2nd dish was Wok-fried scallops and asparagus with bell pepper in spicy XO sauce. It is indeed a colourful presentation for this dish. The scallops were delicious.

The 3rd dish has to be one of my favourite of the set. Doubled-boiled superior shark's fin with bamboo pith, Chinese ham and cabbage. I prefer this soup to the braised shark's fin broth with crab meat

Another favourite of the set - Braised whole abalone with mushrooms, sea moss and seasonal greens. The abalone and the the mushroom were very tender. Mixing them with the sea moss and seasonal greens add flavour to the dish.
Steamed sea perch fillet with minced ginger and garlic in superior light soya sauce. Soft and juicy, the cod fish just melts in your mouth. The sauce heightens the taste of the fish. Thumbs up. I wish we have a bigger portion of the fish

Fried glutinous rice with Chinese sausage, perserved meat and olive seeds. The serving was just nice for 1 person. Sticky yet one is able to appreciate the ingredients in this dish.
Our final 2 dishes were chilled pomelo mango cream and pan-fried chinese nian goa with egg. Always refreshing to complete lunch with delectable desserts.
Mum and I enjoyed our lunch at Wan Hao Restaurant. Thank you for your service and food. Happy Chinese New Year 2011 and May the year of the Rabbit shower us with good health, love and prosperity.
