Church of St Mark

The Church of St. Mark is the parish church of old Zagreb, Croatia, located in St. Mark's Square.
Pat & Anthony
The church has undergone various alterations over the centuries. What is left from the original construction is a Romanesque window and a splendid Gothic doorway, created by sculptor Ivan Parler between 1364 and 1377.

On the roof, tiles are laid representing the coat of arms of Zagreb (white castle on red background) and Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia.

The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar

Pat & Anthony
Weekends are simply precious to us. If you are wondering where do we venture for our meals, it is always very random. This weekend, we decided to explore the Dempsey area and by chance we made our way to The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar. It was much later I learnt that one needs to make reservations. We walked in without reservation. It was certainly a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s signature cuisine features the intense flavours and textures from vegetable juices, fruit essences, light broths, and herbal vinaigrettes instead of the traditional use of meat stocks and creams.

Stone Gate_Zagreb

Surrounding the walls around Gradec, the part of Upper Town built on a neigbouring hill to Kaptol, there used to be five gates. However Stone Gate is now the only of these remaining. It was built in the 13th century and stands besides a square tower from 1266.

Lighting a candle
In 1731, a fire destroyed all the nearby houses but a painting of Mary with Child on the gate was left undamaged. A chapel was established around this painting and a Baroque wrought-iron grille now protects the work.

After visiting the Church of Transfiguration (Open House in Punggol) on April 2, 2017, we chanced upon the French Table at Waterway Point for dinner.
The French Table is indeed a value-for-money French casual dining restaurant. We had the two signature dishes – the Duck Confit and the Roasted Chicken.

The Duck Confit is a key pride for The French Table, using only imported French Duck Leg and using a traditional preparation method that involves curing the duck for over 36 hours with garlic, salt and thyme.
