Tanjong Pagar Railway Station

Singaporeans are visiting Tanjong Pagar Railway Station in droves to catch a glimpse of the place before train operations to and from Malaysia cease on June 30. From July 1, trains will operate from Woodlands Train Checkpoint (WTC).

On 17th June 2011, after lunch, we decided the pay Tanjong Pagar railway station a visit before it was officially closed at the end of the month. I had initally arranged to visit the station the following day, but my friend said she was tired and to give it a miss. As I will be busy the next 2 weekends, decided to shift to that saturday to visit the station. Suprisingly that friend of mine went the following day. So much for planning ahead and says much on double standards.

A historic chapter closed on Thursday, 30 June 2011, at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. Seven trains, bound for Malaysia, made their final journey from the station on Thursday. Many people flocked to the station to take a last train ride from the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.

The ever relaxed Eunice

If not for the fact that the train station was closing, I doubt we would have visited the place.

Around the station, shutterbugs scattered themselves, adding to the sense of occasion, bulbs flashing at every corner of the 79-year-old KTM Railway Station. On Friday, the land on which the station sits will revert to Singapore.
