The Jackson Plan

On 16th July 2011, the dance babes met up for monthly dinner gathering. This time the venue was at The Jackson Plan. Located at 40 duxton hill, this British-styled gastropub is a perfect place where you go for good food that delivers strong flavours yet with simple preparation.

The Jackson Plan, in fact, is named after Lieutenant Philip Jackson, an engineer who drew up Singapore's first city plan in 1822, dividing it into four areas - Chinatown, Chulia (now known as Little India), Kampong Glam and the Eurasian quarter.

Cara thanks for the loot from Europe - Pat with her set of loot

Crusty Bread and butter - $3.50

Scotch Duck Egg, Pea Salad (S$15.50). For me this is the first time I have seen scotch duck egg. We have duck confit instead of sausage meat encasing the egg. Something unique. Nice. We even liked the dressing on the pea salad.

My portion of the scotch duck egg - delicious

Fisherman's Pie @ $25.50

I can't imagine having this dish all by myself. Thankfully there were four of us to share this dish. Cheesy, we have salmon in there. Somehow we all felt this dish lacked something - like pepper, as it had a strong fishy smell. The chef actually came to our table and explained how the dish was cooked Berkshire Pork Cheek, Braised in Cider - 23.50
This has to be my favourite dish of the evening. The pork cheek is tender and mixed with the mash green pea and mash potato, one can't help tasting for more. Cooked to perfection this is a dish worth ordering.

Smooth and Tender Pork Cheek- Thumbs up

Eccles Cakes, with rum and raisin ice cream (S$10.50). We didn't taste much rum in this ice-creamthan. The "cake" is like a Caramelised raisin pastry, the "cakes" can be a little too dry and sweet on its own. Yet it is perfect when is is tasted with the ice cream.

Farquhar Mess, Mango and Gula Melaka (S$11.50). In a way, this dish is a cheeky reference to the haphazard town-planning situation Jackson inherited from the former governor William Farquhar. This is more of a fun dessert, with lots of whipped cream. There are several pieces of meringue and gula-melaka coated mango slices at the bottom.

Our Desserts of the evening.

In total our bill came up to $105.93. Slightly expensive for 2 main courses, 2 desserts and 2 starters. However if one wants to experience great british food in gorgeous Singapore setting, this is the place to be on a Saturday night.

The Jackson Plan is a nice place to chill out with friends. There is a bright yellow-themed bar section as well as a breezy patio for al fresco dining and drinking. We enjoyed dinner there.

Kintamani

Established since 1985, relish the best in Indonesian cuisine over a delectable buffet spread of over 30 International dishese as well as a savoury a la carte menu at Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant. Indeed a world of culinary delights awaits one at Furama RiverFront.

I brought my mother to Kintamani on 17 July, 2011 to sample the spread and at the same time to enjoy the UOB's 1-1 promotion. It was around $40+ for two after discount. The spread could have been more, yet it was definitely value for money.

Prawns and satay

Mum's first plate of Indonesian food that day. She loved the prawns and the satay as we observe later from her spread of food. The prawns were fresh and the satay was tender, with the gravy and peanut sauce, one can't help having more satay.

Pat's first plate of food

For starters, my plate consisted of potato, chicken wing, salad, prawns, satay and crackers. The chicken wing was delicious, the sauce used brought out the taste of the chicken wing. There were 3 selection of Indonesian crackers to select from. Can be pretty addictive muching the crackers.

Pat's plate of main course

Here is my plate of main course. Among which was fish, rendang, egg, chicken, vegetables, omelette. The sweet and sour fish was nice. So were the fresh green vegetables. The chicken and rendang were a little tough though.

Mum's plate of food

My mum seemed to love the satay. Check out satay sticks that she had. I think she had a total of 20 satay compared to my 5 sticks of satay.

Prawns Galore

One would have thought we were here for a prawn eating competition. Yap, that's mum's plate too. I discreetly took 2 prawns from her plate.

I had the chicken soup. It was warm and delicious. Chicken with carrots and potatoes. A must try. Thumbs up.

Chendol - Desserts Time

Refreshing and sweet. At the desserts spread, one just had to mix the chendol with ice. Hence if you want a thicker chendol, put lesser ice.

Bubur Terigu and Durian Pengat

Enjoyed the dessert spread. They have ice-cream, chendol, durian pengat and bubur terigu. They also have varieties of colorful Indonesian kueh. The banana fritters were crispy and sweet.

Cakes & Banana Fritter with chocolate sauce

Fruits Time

Banana Fritter, plums and oranges

My plate of guava :)

They had 4 flavours of ice-cream : yam, coffee, mango and durian

The durian and the coffee were the nicer flavors among the 4 types of ice -cream.

It was an enjoyable lunch on Sunday. We were so full after the meal. Great bonding time and value for money.

Check out more Sunday meals with mum and friends.

Pat & Eunice

Once again we were back at Sushi Tei at Raffles City for dinner on 6 July 2011. This time Karen joined us. It's nice to be having dinner together with ex-colleagues. I have not seen Karen for the past 2 years and she just relocated back to Singapore.
