Eagle's Nest

On 4 June 2012, we went for our final optional tour, priced at 40Euro. It's a pity this was pre-booked else we may have considered cancelling this trip. It rained that morning. To worsened situation, some of us were not dressed warmly. We had to battle the wind and the rain to climb up to Eagle Nest. It was a misty view.

Eagle's Nest was a tour of Hitler's mountain retreat located 1, 834m on top of Mt Kehlstein, a site which combines a unique example of historic architecture and stunning alphine setting. We boarded the resort bus for the journey up the Kehlstein Road.
We rode the original brass elevator up through the rock into Kehlsteinhaus - Eagle's Nest

Construction of the building on top of a mountain, with its steep access road and a 400 foot elevator shaft inside the mountain.
The name Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" came from a description of the place by the French ambassador in 1938. The Germans called it the "D-House" (for diplomatic) or the Kehlsteinhaus, from its location on the Kehlstein mountain. Hitler's Eagles' Nest was used primarily to entertain visiting dignitaries.

Here we go - battling the cold and the rain
