Din Tai Fung

Pat, Michael, Marcus, Flo and Agung - Din Tai Fung on 16 August 2011
It started off with Mike posting on his the wall of his facebook the places he wanted to dine at before he leaves to US for studies. I took the initiative to coordinate the date and then once the rest of the Prefect Exco could make it - 16 August was the date. Roderick couldn't make it. And hence we met at Din Tai Feng for lunch, #B1-08/09/10 Raffles City Shopping Centre.

Shanghai Chicken with wine ( $6.80)

Our first dish -the chicken, we were expecting a bigger dish. They had wine sauce mixed with the chicken hence it was simply delicious. We left 2 pieces of chicken for Agung who was late. The rest of the food was finished within 10 minutes among the 4 of us.

Steamed pork dumplings ($9.00)

We ordered 2 baskets of pork dumplings and I think this has to be michael's favourite. Yes, Mike dream of the Xiaolongbao when you are in the states. Each of us had an avearge of 4 pork dumplings. Have the dumplings when it is pipping hot and feel the juice as one savour on the them. We nearly wanted to order another basket. Yet we decided to try the other dishes.

Mushroom noodles ( $8.00)

I can recall how Marcus tried to have a smaller portion of noodles onto his bowl. Mike had to help him slice the long noodles into shorter pieces.

Cripsy Pancake

This is one of Pat's favourite dish when she dines at Din Tai Fung. Crispy yet savoury.

Steamed green vegetables and po ($6.50)

Fried Rice & Pork Chop ( $9.00)

If one wasn't into dumplings, this is one dish that is filling and reasonably priced. Flo ordered this dish. Someone loves the fried rice here.

Shrimp and pork Shao-mai ($13.50)

This was the first time I was having this dish. I was certainly fascinated by the unique presentation. Shaped like a vase, the pork dumpling is at the base while the shrimp is place above.

Steamed crab meat & pork po ( $9.00)

I still love the original pork dumplings. Don't all the dumplings look almost the same. It's the ingredients that's different.

Spicy noodles

Dan Dan noodles

The peanut sauce blends well with the noodles.

Ms Ang with Perfect Exco

Had an enjoyable makan session with all. Michael, Marcus all the best for your studies. Agung enjoy your internship. Flo, Roderick, yes we know both of you are in Singapore. Anyway just to say stay in touch and ora et labora.

TCC Scotts

On 19 August 2011, I caught up with Xuying, (classmate from secondary school days) whom I haven't seen for a while. We met up for dinner at TCC @ Scotts. It's always nice meeting up with friends over dinner. We had lots to catch up in a nice cosy place.

Spaghetti with salmon and egg was the dish I ordered. Yap, I have always love salmon -brain food. The egg was well done. Mix the yolk with the spaghetti sauce it gives an excellent flavour to this dish.

Xuying had the chicken with vegetables and potatoes.

Oysters Feast in Tasmania

Best Succulent fresh Oysters from Barilla Oyster Farm
Fresh Oysters from the sea

Barilla Bay oyster farm is located approximately 5 minutes from Hobart airport, perfect for you to have a fly by stop before your flight. The oyster farm is only one part of Barilla Bay, they also have a great restaurant and gourmet foodstore, specialising in Tasmanian produce. The building overlooks the oysters in the Southern Ocean waters, producing a great setting at dusk.

Pat is on the shore where the oysters are hidden in the sea

With more than 100 oyster farms in Tasmania, Barilla Bay is one of the larger oyster farms. The family operated business has been in the same location for 30 years and provides many of the local restaurants with their pacific oysters, in addition to many overseas clients.

The Oyster farm tours operate at two times during the weekend, 12 noon and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday only. The tour is approximately 45 minutes and is shore based, which means you will not go out on boats to see the oysters in the water. It was windy when we went in December 2007. The tour will take you out to the edge of the bay, where the oysters are in grown in racks and then into the processing areas for harvesting. It is an interesting tour, if you like these creamy, milky, gooey oysters, but it’s not for everyone.

In the processing area, the staff opened up a few of the oysters for us to taste. They were milky, creamy, salty and gooey in a good way. The expression on the faces of the people who sucked one down were pretty much pure exultation. After the tour, we were treated to some more oysters in the foodstore. There were about 3 oysters per person and you could eat them natural, with some lemon or some Tabasco sauce. Yes Gina and Pat love the oysters - Delicious!

I will definitely visit this place if I am back in Tasmania for holidays.

Fabrika/Warung Le Le

Daffies Gathering on 22 August 2011

Fabrika by Chivas 18, a new sky terrace bar that celebrates the fabric of life at the Boutique Hotel was where a few of us met before dinner on Monday, 22nd August 2011. Perched on the 17th floor of this design-driven hotel and located in the Central Business District in Tower 15 on Hoe Chiang Road, fabrika is an urban oasis, offering patrons a place of reprieve and relaxation which breaks the monotony of a hassled work day.

Ana & Pat

With your favourite chilled drink in hand, we soaked into the take view of the city. Indeed a nice place to chill out and catch up with friends.

Our drinks
Ana and Pat met up for drinks. We were joined later by Jeremy and Stephanus.

Ana with her white wine and nachos

Pat with her lemonade drink

Our side dish of Nachos ever so addictive - the 3 dips, of which the cheese dip was the most popular. We had a refill on the cheese dip the second round. Stephanus took the spicy tomota based tip while the cream dip was left bascially untouched. There was a 1-1 promotion on the drinks. We had to take 2 drinks each for that promotion. I passed on that which explained why I opted for lemonade drink. Ana managed to pass her 2nd glass of white wine to Stephanus. By the time Jeremy arrived, the nachos were finished. He had his 2 glasses of drinks. It was then time to head for dinner at Warung Le Le.

Wrung Le Le is located at 8 Shenton Way. Currently for the Ramadan period they have a special promotion set priced at $12++ in semi-buffet style.

There were several drinks to order, this is exclusive of the set menu. I had the guava juice. We gave Stephanus the honour of ordering the food. Indeed it was a good spread of food and value for money.

It's always great catching up with daffies over dinner. So much laughter and fellowship that goes behind the scenes. That evening there were 9 of us - Jean, Joseph, Sylvia, Jeremy,Clement,Violet, Stephanus, Ana and Pat.

Beef Rendang

Our first dish - beef rendang. Very tender and well marinated. Thumbs up for this dish.

Egg Beancurd ( Tahu Telor)

Tahu Telor one of my favourite dishes whenever I visit Indonesian restaurants. This dish was ordinary. I prefer the Tahu Telor at Rice Table, richer in the sauce and outer layer is very crispy.

Calamari Squid Rings

This dish was unique, well done compared to calamari dishes that I have tasted. It's cripsy and the squid is chewable, not tough at all.

Water Spinach with Sambal Balacan

The vegetables dish, water spinach was fresh. I found this dish the hottest and had to drink lots of water. It was later I realised that there was sambal balacan in the vegetables. For those who love spicy food this is one dish that is worth ordering.

Padang Curry Chicken

Thick flavoured curry, the usual curry chicken dish we always eat.

Ikan Nila Bakar (Nila Fish Grilled)

The fish is well grilled. Very crispy on the outside and the meat is fresh. We can all recall Clement crunching the fish and laughing about the incident.

Special Beef Ball Soup

Soup was nice - mixture of vegetables, resembles a little to yong tao fu style - the indonesian version.

There was also kueh, bubor, drinks and beverages and dessert on buffet table which were free flow for those who ordered the sets.

Jeremy, Ana, Sylvia, Violet, Clement, Pat, Jean, Joseph and Stephanus

Thanks Clement and Violet for organising. We certainly had an enjoyable evening. Look forward to see you at Daff Class.

Chills

On 13 August 2011, after a church talk at St Ignatius Church in the morning, both Edith and myself headed to town for lunch. We chanced upon Chill's Grill & Bar, located at #02-23 Tanglin Mall and we had our lunch there. I recalled visiting this place last year, celebrating my birthday with my friend. Both of us have January birthdays.

Our Plates of Chicken, Fries and Corn for lunch

Honey Chiptole Crsps ( $22.90)

Edith had the honey chiptole Crsps - spicy chicken with honey flavour. She loved the buttery corn which both of us kept that the last item to savour slowly.

Pat's Country Crisper ( $22.90)

I had the fried chicken. Crispy skin and  tender meat. With the bbq sauce it was a great combination.

Both of us had an enjoyable afternoon at Chills. We were certainly too full to have dessert. Enjoyed my weekend.

SushiTei/ Coffeeclub

Joanna, Cara & Pat
How time flies. It's the dance babes monthly gathering in August. Linda wasn't feeling well, hence she was unable to join us. This time we went for Japanese food at Sushi Tei located at Raffles City on 20 August 2011.

Cara & Pat

Pat & Joanna
A little bird told us someone just came back from JB shopping.
Cara & Joanna

Edamame ($4.10)
It's always fun and addictive chewing the peas of Edamame. This is a preparation of immature soybeans  in the pod commonly found in Japan, China, Korea and Hawaii. The pods are boiled in water together with condiments such as salt and served whole.

Garlic Rice ($8)
The dish was tasty and nicely fried.Worth ordering.
Sashimi Salad with Sushi Tei dressing ($9)
Love the generous serving of Sashimi and the vegetables, a healthy serving with the SushiTei sauce.

Pat's all time favourite Salad

HotateToji Ramen($11)
Pat ordered this dish, comprising of scallops, egg and ramen. A seafood girl, she likes to try different kinds of japanese food.

Salmon Skin ($4.80)
Addictive and crunchy in the fried version
Ton Curry Udon ($14)
Pork Cutlet and Ton Curry Udon. Not a dish to order. Curry was thick yet the ingredients were just plain Udon and the slices of Pork Cutlet.

We wanted to order dessert, yet we were so full after the dishes then we called for the bill and adjourned for some shopping.
Ice Rambutan ($6.80)

It was time to rest our legs after shopping at Raffles City. As Mac was full house, we proceed to coffeeclub for drinks. We were told the placed closed at 10pm, hence we only had 20 min for our icy drinks.

Pink and Cool

Chilling out with a cool drink

Mango Peach Smoothie ($6.80)

It's always an enjoyable time with the dance babes. Look forward to our September gathering. Want to know where we are heading to, stay tune to this blog :)
