Candlenut

The world’s first Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant, Candlenut takes a contemporary yet authentic approach to traditional Straits-Chinese cuisine. At Candlenut, be treated to a spread of dishes under the very capable hands of chef Malcolm Lee, one of the few Singaporean chefs to have won a Michelin Star.
All set for the Peranakan dinning

Portions are manageable, to experience the spread of dishes, go for the omakase menus. Candlenut offers omakase-style menus for both lunch and dinner. Lunch goes at $88++ for 10 dishes while dinner goes at $128+ for 14.

We been to Candlenut for lunch for the ala-carte menu. This year for Anthony’s birthday in the month of March, I decided to treat him for the omakase dinner. The spread was good. Thank you for the birthday experience.

Fountains Abbey (York)

 Exploring Fountains Abbey

Fountains Abbey was established by Benedictine monks from St Mary's Abbey in York, in 1132.

It is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England, located approximately 5 kilometres south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield.

The Abbey was abruptly closed down in 1539 in the Dissolution of the Monasteries ordered by Henry VIII, and the abbot, prior and monks were sent away with pensions.

Fountains Abbey today - The estate was sold by the Crown to a merchant, Sir Richard Gresham. It remained in private hands until the 1960s, including William and John Aislabie who designed Studley Royal water garden of which the abbey became an integral part of. The National Trust bought the estate from the West Riding County Council in 1983.

And so our search for Oor Wullie in Glasgow continued. I was very fascinated with the designs and the colours of Oor Wullie. That was the highlight for the trip in Scotland.
