Loch Ard Gorge is on the Great Ocean Road is named after the sailing clipper Loch Ard
(itself named after Loch Ard in Scotland), which ran
aground on nearby Muttonbird Island on 1 June 1878. Only 2 of the 54 passengers and crew
survived.
