Street Art In Penang

It was an amazing time in George Town, Penang checking out the street art and welded iron wall caricatures. Definitely one of the highlights. Let the pictures do the talking.

Dharmikarama Burmese Temple (Penang)

Dharmikarama Burmese Temple is the only Burmese Buddhist temple outside Myanmar. Located in Georgetown Penang, it stands opposite Wat Chayamangkalaram Temple, with a pair of large stone elephants flanking the front gates.
Inside the pagoda grounds is a Boddhi tree, a wishing pond and apartments for monks. It was the first kyaung (Burmese monastery-temple) in Malaysia, built in 1803. As the first kyaung in Penang, Dhammikarama is a temple filled with striking features and rich past.
The temple is at its busiest during festivals such as Wesak Day as well as Thankyan (Water Festival) in April – a celebration similar to Thailand’s Song kran festival, in which devotees splash water at each other and pay respect to elders.

Reclining Buddha Temple ( Penang)

The Reclining Buddha Temple (Wat Chayamangkalaram) is located at Burma Road (Lorong Burma), Pulau Tikus, Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia.
The temple can be seen on the road from Georgetown to Batu Feringghi. It is located right across of the Dharmikarama Burmese Temple.

The Reclining Buddha Temple (Wat Chayamangkalaram) is also known as the Sleeping Buddha by the locals. This temple is a Thai temple and it is well known due to the gold plated reclining Buddha that is as long as 33meters. This made it one of the largest available in the whole wide world.

In addition to the 108 ft-long reclining Buddha, Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram Temple also has smaller statues of the ‘Awakened One’ in various guises plus you can also see statuettes of other popular Thai deities in the main prayer hall.

The temple was built in the year of 1845. on the five acres land given by Queen Victoria to the Thai's community. The reclining Buddha represents the historical Buddha at his death, with the name of Pra Buddhachaiya Mongkul which is a symbol to a complete peace and detachment from the world.

Konpirasan ( part 1)

Kompirasan, formally known as Kotohiragu, is the main shrine of multiple Kompira shrines found around Japan that are dedicated to sailors and seafaring.
Located on the wooded slope of Mount Zozu in Kotohira, the approach to Kompirasan is an arduous series of 1,368 stone steps.
This has to be for me the most challenging highlight of my Japan trip in June. We were told to ascend and descent the 1000 odd steps within an hour. I nearly didn't couldn't make it, but I did. Let me share with you how I overcame this.
We all started walking in groups, those who were faster were miles ahead. We paced ourselves with the ascent, using the sticks to aid us. I was with Gina, who was busy chatting and taking photos. Eventually I followed a few others to pace with them.
Despite being among the more challenging shrine approaches in Japan, Kompirasan is a highly popular site visited by pilgrims from across the country.

Scenic View

Enjoying the view but started to climb up at a slower pace.

TCC ( Vivocity)

TCC has to be one of favourite places for dining. For the month of June, I caught up with my good friend Laura for dinner at Vivocity.
